Sergei Davidis was declared involved in terrorism. Statement by the Council of the Memorial Center

On November 28, 2024, it became known that our friend, co-chairman of the Memorial Human Rights Center, Sergei Davidis, was included in the Rosfinmonitoring "list of extremists and terrorists", with a note about "involvement in terrorism".
We can assume that the basis for inclusion in this list could only be the initiation of a criminal case against Sergei. We know nothing about this case: neither the article, nor the formal grounds for its initiation.
But we are certainly sure: our comrade has not had and does not have any real, not fictitious, relation to terrorism or its justification.
For many years, Sergei has been engaged in the most important cause for today's Russia - the protection of political prisoners, organizing assistance to them, drawing attention both in Russia and around the world to the illegal practice of the current Russian authorities - to the persecution of their opponents and simply people they do not like for political reasons.
Now Sergei himself is being subjected to such persecution. Whatever formal pretext the repressive regime may choose to initiate a criminal case against Sergei Davidis, it is obvious to us: this is another attempt to intimidate Russian civil society, to force it to remain silent and stop acting.
But it will not work.
