Detentions of journalists in Dagestan

After partial mobilization was announced in Russia, several protest actions took place in Dagestan in September 2022. The most noticeable protests were held on September 25-26 in Makhachkala, during which about 400 people were detained. The detainees were taken to the police station, where, contrary to law, they were held for a long time in unacceptable conditions, without food and water, and without the opportunity to contact their relatives, as their phones were seized. They were deprived of legal aid, and the security forces committed numerous violations.
Among the detainees were journalists from local and federal media. On September 25, 2022, Murad Muradov, a correspondent of the Caucasian Knot, was detained in Makhachkala at a protest action against mobilization. The next day Yulia Vishnevetskaya, a reporter from the Russian service of Radio Liberty and the edition “Russian Reporter”, New Case correspondent Idris Yusupov, and RusNews editor-in-chief Sergey Einbinder were detained in the central square of the city.
All the journalists are trying to bring the police to criminal liability.
